Henniway you look at it, it was a tough week. Rosetta and Rosaria spent the Easter weekend with ice bags on their beaks. On Good Friday, they both had peakoplasties done. Dr. Dominique promises that they will both be thrilled with their more refined beaks. They stayed in their nest all weekend, and listened to the Capris singing: “Whoa, oh baby I never felt this way before.”

George Bush spent the days before Easter in seclusion at his Texas ranch. It was his 33rd visit to his ranch since he became president. He has spent eight months of his presidency at his ranch. Most Hatchburgains hope that in the near future he will return to full time ranching. On Thursday, while things were heating up in Iraq, Bush hosted Leaders of the NRA, the Ruffed Grouse Society, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation on a tour of his 1,600-acre ranch. On Friday, while Americans fought in Iraq, Mr. Bush fished in his bass pond and caught a four- pound bass. He spent four days relaxing, without public appearances, but he did speak twice to his national security team regarding developments in Iraq. On Sunday, he passed out a few Purple Hearts. Raymond and Francesca spent Sunday pecking George’s name out of Sunday’s New York Times.

At the Roasted Corn, Rosie served a free Easter brunch buffet. On the left side of the diner, she set up a table with writing material and postage stamps. Customers wrote condolences to families who have lost loved ones in the Iraq war (the one that is over). Hattie noted that over 600 Iraqis were killed last week (mostly women and children). Outside the Corn, Henrietta and Kitty took turns reading the names of some the American’s who have died in Iraq:

Oh, what a week. Henniway you look at it, teardrops fell in Hatchburg. The burned bodies of Americans suspended over the Euphrates River, seen on the front page of the April 1st New York Times, left roosters and chicks cluckless with tears in their morning coffee. The brutal anti-American violence struck hard in the henhouse. Egg production was down and a few eggs cracked as hens trembled with horror. At the Liver and Gizzard Bar and Grill, Kitty offered shots of Campari and all present toasted George Bush, our April fool. Rusty made a serious toast to Bush with cranberry juice. It was Rusty’s first night at a bar since he gave up drinking.

Rosie’s daffodils and crocuses popped up around the diner dressed in yellow and purple. Rusty painted the Roasted Corn purple and corn yellow to match the flowers. This was a pre Easter surprise for Rosie. It wasn’t eggsactly what she eggspecked but she likes it. Henrietta, on the other wing, hasn’t spoken to Rusty or Rosie since the first brush stroke of purple blushed the front of the RC. Henrietta plans to forgive and forget on Easter Sunday, but not before.

Palm Sunday, in Princeton, a dozen Hatchburg chicks and roosters will stage a nest in at Merrick’s on Moore’s front window. They plan a beauty roost for spring. They can be seen until Easter Sunday, when they will pack up their nests and head for the Rosie’s Roasted Corn for Easter Dinner.

We remember the latest young victims of the Iraq War and we ask why?
DAVIS, Brandon L., 20, Pvt., Army; Cumberland, Md; First Infantry Division.
HUFSTEDLER, Doyle, M., 25, First Lt., Army; Abilene, Tex; First Infantry Division,

MITCHELL, Sean R., 24 Specialist, Army; Youngsville, Pa; First Infantry Division.

The Department of Defense has identified more than 600American service members who have died since the start of the Iraq war. This Passover and Easter six hundred families will be without their sons and daughters.
